Dr. Vincent J. Parlante M.D. – Hillsboro Illinois

Dr. Vincent J. Parlante, son of Italian Immigrant parents, studied and practiced medicine throughout the U.S. before settling in Hillsboro in 1959. He was reared in New York City, did undergraduate pre-med work at the University of Missouri and earned his M.D. degree in 1942 from the University of Buffalo, now New Your State University.

Following his internship and residency in general surgery at hospitals in New York City, Dr. Parlante worked and studied for surgery board exams at hospitals in Pensacola, Florida and Los Angeles, California. Beginning in 1951 he served two years in the U.S. Army as chief of surgery at Fort Lee Army Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia.

He continued his surgical specialization, including abdominal and chest surgery, at Veterans Administration hospitals in Prescott, Arizona and Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Parlante brought his family to Hillsboro 18 years ago when he Dr. Bill Douglas and Dr. Bill Draper attempted to organize a six-doctor medical clinic, for which Dr. Parlante would have been the surgeon. The proposal never materialized and the three continued to maintain separate medical offices.

Dr. Parlante's first private office was located above Finley's Pharmacy on Main Street, and later moved into offices in the Kelly Building on South Main Street. He simultaneously operated an office in Coffeen for more than ten years. In 1972 he combined the two facilities at his present School Street clinic a modern, spacious office in the renovated dress factory building.

He's pictured with his staff in one of the clinic's large examination rooms. From the left are: Mrs. Darrell (Alice) DeRight, receptionist; Mrs, Roger (Patsy) McWilliams, LPN; and Mrs. Melvis (Doris) McFarland, receptionist and bookkeeper.
