Biography & Information

Allen, Audrey E.

Services for Audrey E. Allen, of Litchfield, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Donald Langhoff officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Plummer Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be directed to Zion Lutheran Church. Mrs. Allen died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield. She was 72 years old on January 8. She was employed as a seamstress with the Marine Garment Factory in Marine, Ill., for several years. In Litchfield, she was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the Tape Ministry. She was also a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels program. She was born in Dummer, Saskatchewan, Canada, a daughter of Carl Herman and Amanda Mary Page Melchert. She married Edward Raymond Allen on October 19, 1944, in East St. Louis. He died October 31, 1985. Surviving are sons, David C. Allen and wife Anna Marie, Litchfield, Trent Allen of Zachary, La.; a daughter, Joan L. Moore and husband Ernest of Staunton; brother, Carl Melchert and wife Elvira of Mt. Olive; sister, Shirley Isaacs and husband Tom of Litchfield; five grandchildren, Kelly Hagen, Lisa Mathis, Bonnie Haefer, D. Brett Allen, Elizabeth Allen; and seven great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a sister, Carlotta Melchert. Services for Audrey E. Allen, of Litchfield, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Donald Langhoff officiated. Burial was in Elm Lawn Cemetery. During the service organist Marilyn Niehaus accompanied shirley Edwards as she sang "How Great Thour Art." Mrs. Niehaus also accompanied the congregation as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace." Pallbearers were D. Brett Allen and Robert D. Allen, both of Litchfield, Thomas Haefer of Highland, Jayson Hagen and Michael Hagen of Benld, and Gregory Mathis of Mt. Olive. Following the commital service a luncheon was provided for family and friends by the Zion Ladies Aid. Plummer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Allen, 72, died Saturday, April 10, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.
