Cardell Monroe "Corky" Boyce, 91, of Litchfield, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at 6:44 p.m. in Port Orange Care Center, Port Orange, FL.
Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 31, at 6 p.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Pastor Mike Bates of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Coffeen will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery, Litchfield.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Mr. Boyce was born on Feb. 13, 1919, in Belleville, a son of Roy L. and Lavina (Haeman) Boyce.
He married Mary Catherine Hopkins on March 24, 1945, in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in East St. Louis. She survives.
Over the years, he was employed by Freeman United Coal Company "Big Mine" in Farmersville and Monterey Coal in Carlinville as a plant repairman until he retired in 1985.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he was a member of Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634 and United Mine Workers Local #1613.
In his spare time, he loved to go dancing with his wife and enjoyed bowling.
He is also survived by a son, Gary (wife Janet) Boyce of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; two sisters, Dorothy Sullivan of Denver, CO, and Ruth (husband John) Russell of Fairfax, VA; two grandchildren, Mark (wife Jamie) Boyce of Granite City, and Kim (husband Brent) Monke of Litchfield; three great-grandchildren, Paige Simmons, and Lauren and Addison Monke.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association.
