At Ripe Old Age
Alexander Cranfill died at the home of his daughter Mrs. W.L. Douglas, Tues day, July 26, 1910. His age was 88 years, 11 months and 23 days. He was born in Davis County , North Carolina on August 3, 1821. In 1851 he was married in the old North state to Miss Elizabeth Chapin and in the fall of 1865 they moved to Summitville, Indiana where he lived for 25 years. In February, 1890 he moved to this county and settled near Hillsboro. In September of that year his wife died and was buried here. Children: Thomas of Hillsboro, B.F. of Hillsboro, Odessa, wife of Wash L. Douglas of Hillsboro John of Fairmount, Indiana Amanda, the wife of Jackson Gaither of Summitville, Indiana, Nancy, wife of Thomas Creamer of Summitville , Indiana, Catharine, wife of Newton Bailey of Indianapolis, Indiana. Alexander left 57 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a highly respected citizen. "For sometime he has been suffering from the infirmities incident to old age." Funeral services held at the residence of W.L. Douglas in Hillsboro at 10:00 a.m. Rev. E.S. Combs, pastor of the Methodist Church in Hillsboro officiated. Burial in Cress Hill Cemetery.
