Lincoln Statue "Among Friends"

Unveiliing of the Lincoln Statue in Hillsboro Illinois

Abe was the star, but the spotlight was on Hillsboro's achievement for the unveiling of the new statue of America's 16th President.

An overflow crowd attended Saturday evening's dedication of "Among Friends," a life-size bronze sculpture of Lincoln on the downtown plaza.

The Forgotten Cemeteries title is in tribute to all the cemetery readings done by Walter Sanders and his high school students in the 1940's. Hopefully we can carry on the tradition and work together to locate and read all the abandoned cemeteries in Montgomery County!

The pioneer village of Hillsboro was less than a dozen years old when Solomon Harkey built his two-story Federal style home in 1834. A plain house by today's standards, it must have seemed a mansion at a time when even the Montgomery County courthouse was a simple log structure.
