  • Gary Walters Jeffrey B. Dunn Jeffrey, I think that it would be nice to have a helpful links section to the home page. Two links that I use often are http://www.archive.org it is a free site and has many usefull old books that can be downloaded free from all over the country that are very helpfull when researching an area or a family. The other site is http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/reso...tificates/ it to is a great free research site that you can down load Missouri death certificates for free.

  • Julianne Skinner Historical Society I am researching my father's family, surname Mann, who I believe came from here. His grandfather's name was Elias S Mann, born May 15, 1864 in Hillsboro, Ill. On his death certificate (from Logan County, Ill) his parents are listed as Samuel H Mann, born in Kentucky, and Martha Stewart Mann, born in Illinois. I see that these individuals have records at this site but none past 1860. Is there someone who has information about this family?

  • Sally Ray Why was Dr. Cornelius Witherspoon Hickman, and wife, Carrie Mae Seward Hickman in Katy, Texas ? (Lots of cheap land?) Dr. Hickman d.1933, Carrie Mae d. 1930, both buried Magnolia Cemetery, Katy, TX. Also, a Messenger (d. 1910) is buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Katy, Txas. Seeking information on James C. Messenger / W. M. Messenger. Local VFW Post 9182 is seeking positive proof that James C. Messenger, and NOT, W. M. Messenger, is buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Katy, TX (for veteran's marker) Grave marker reads W. M. Messenger, veteran. Undertaker records show W. M. Messenger bought 3 lots on date of James C. Messenger death (1910). 2 lots still unused. I found on internet that Harry Fern Hickman married Mildred May Messenger (Not in Katy) Also found a mention of James C. Messenger in genealogy site of Terry Hickman. What is the connectionif any, between Hickmans and Messengers? The Hickmans were neighbors and friends of my grandparents. I personally knew Rae Duffield and Betty and little Miss 'Peg' as a toddler. My mother was a Boulet.

    • Jeffrey B. DunnAnother Witherspoon left Hillsboro and went to Texas about the same time. Around 1903, Josiah and Anna (Witherspoon) Bixler left Hillsboro and moved to Mission Texas. Josiah invested heavily in farm land around Mission, where truck farming was being started, with the rise in refrigerated cars for shipping vegetables. The family first tried onions before changing over to citrus groves. The groves stayed in the family for about 50 years.

  • Lindsey Neas andrew howett Andrew, I was searching last week for information on-line about where John James Rutledge is buried. If I'm not mistaken, he is the 5th g-grandfather to both of us. While searching, I located a website w/ a 1999 posting from Kathleen Howett. In her posting, she stated that she had pictures of James Mayes Rutledge (1798-1880), my g-g-g-grandfather, and also the old Rutledge family bible. I sent her a note, but the email address included in her posting is no longer active. If she or you have digital copies of your photos of James M. Rutledge, could you share them? I have photos of T.J. and Sylvia (Bennett) Rutledge, dating to the 1850s and most of the childrens' obits from '54 to '65. Lindsey R. Neas
