    • Jeffrey B. DunnI removed that listing. I linked a few of the Bramel family members together. This listing has the wrong photo. http://history.montgomeryco.com/Def...;tabid=981 Do you have a copy of the correct photo that you could add?
      7:28 PM March 31
    • Ann TindallThanks. Yes, I changed the photo although there is no death date for Jerald.

    • Jeffrey B. DunnI wonder if he's still alive and I should hide his listing. He would be 94 years old.

  • Sharon Misdea Hello! I am trying to help a group of people (including my cousin) in New Caledonia locate the family of a Hilary Stauder, who served in New Caledonia during WWII, as my grandfather did. Hilary created an etching ("trench art") which this group would like to give to Stauder descendants. The etching is marked "Hilary Stauder, Nokomis, IL." I've located an enlistment record for one Hilary H. Stauder, as well as a headstone photo for Hilary H. Stauder on this site. However, I need to locate an obituary, newspaper article, or some other record that puts Hilary H. Stauder in New Caledonia during WWII (as you may know, most of these records were destroyed in a a NARA fire in the '70s). Hilary H. Stauder is listed in 1920 and 30 census records as from Witt. I am also hoping an obituary might identify family. I've searched online obituaries identified through Google and Ancestry.com. I've also contacted the owner of a Stauder family tree on Ancestry, with no luck yet. It strikes me that "Hilary Stauder" may be an unusual enough name that "Hilary Stauder" from Nokomis, in New Caledonia in 1942, may be the same person as "Hilary H. Stauder" from Witt who enlisted the year or so before. Any suggestions? Perhaps other searchable newspaper databases in the area? A local VA facility? Thank you! sharon at twocaledonia.net

    • Jackie KingSharon - I can find two obits for him on genealogy bank. Neither mentions his military service, however, I am certain you have already found the enlistment date of 29 Apr 1941 for the Montgomery County Hilary.

    • Sharon MisdeaHi Jackie - Thanks so much for this. I've reached out to descendants mentioned in the obituary. Again, thanks!

  • Stephen White I found that my Great Grandmother worked at a Almshouse in Montgomery County in the 1930's. Where would that facility site have been? The 1930 census shows east fork township.
    • Marjorie BaileyHello. I believe that would have been the County Poor Farm. It was in East Fork Twp Section 19 and Hillsboro Twp Section 24. Highway 185 runs through there now and Graham Correctional Center is on the south side of the highway.

    • Stephen WhiteThank you for the reply. Are there any existing pictures or drawings of the old facility? Just wondering.
      8:56 AM March 29
    • Jeffrey B. DunnI can't find any photos of the Montgomery County Poor Farm. I'm kind of surprised. There is a cemetery on the property with burials from the 1880's to the 1940's. That means the facility was around for at least 60 years. There just isn't any information on it.

    • Stephen WhiteThank You.

    • Linda Barricklow-CollinsIs the cemetery still there? Some say yes, others say no.
      6:22 PM March 31
    • Jeffrey B. DunnThe cemetery is still there. I went to the courthouse on Thursday and got good mapping info. We went by there today. It’s on County owned ground that Jason Anderson farms. We still have to let the prison know before going onto the property.

Robert has a passion for genealogical and historical research, and he has offered to share photographs and information about many of the early settlers in East Fork and Grisham.
