  • Denise Evans Solomon Harkey was the brother of Absolome Lee Harkey who married Talitha Scherer they had three kids together he died she then married Godfrey Stiefel/Steefels thier daughter Sarah Ida Stiefel is my great great grandmother twice; she married Isaac Newton Brokaw and two of her children Harry and Essie are both my great grands; Harry m. Ballie E Davis dau of BC Davis of Litchfiled and Essie G Brokaw m John Adams Prickett Barnett. Harry and Ballie had my dads mom Laverne Brokaw who m Eugene Evans and Essie and John had 5 girls one my moms mom Dorothy B Barnett who m. James N Tolley. Dorothy b 1914 died 2010. Her sister Esther born in 1907 died at age 102. we have longevity.

    The pioneer village of Hillsboro was less than a dozen years old when Solomon Harkey built his two story Federal style home in 1834. The Harkey family came to Hillsboro in 1830 from Iredell County, North Carolina, and Solomon established a tannery in the area of present day Central Park. In 1831, he was married to Sophia Cress, the daughter of Jacob and Catharine Bost Cress, pioneer settlers in the Hillsboro area.     • Denise EvansThe Frederick Scherer II and his wife Margaret Clapp and family came in 1833 arving about Dec to Hilsboro with thier children , Talitha was about 15 at the time and before arriving in Ill, they were at some point I thing the the Ohio Valley when the Lenoid Metor showere happened where many thought it was the end of the world, because at that time they didnt know about the reoccoruing metors. Talitha would later marry Abolume Harkey brother of Solomon.
