  • Ann Tindall Marjie, Thanks for the information you mailed to me regarding the District 5 school record of 1861-62. From the 1860 census record, I can conclude that the school had to be in Butler as families in the "country" surround the town, and others appear to have been townspeople. Thanks for your help. I will be posting some of the material on this site. Marilyn and Chris are both doing well after the joint surgeries! The cold in WI is getting to me! Ann

  • Marjorie Bailey DM: Hello. Jacob Cress came from Indiana in the summer of 1818 and brought much stock with him. Due to immense swarms of flies, they traveled by night and put bells on the animals so as not to lose them in the dense prairie. Mr. Cress built the first flour mill in Butler Grove Township in 1825, and it was powered by horses and kept running day and night. In 1845 he changed to steam power. It was built east of Butler and north of Hillsboro on his farm. Reference: A Brief History of the Village of Butler.

    • Diane SmithGREAT.. looking forward to getting your info. I've made contact on ancestry.com, then Facebook with one of DJ Parrott's oldest sons- James' daughter Grace's great-grandson. WHEW! He had Pictures of Janes, Grace & a couple brothers. First pictures of the Parrotts. Grace would have been my grandma's half first cousin. James was from DJ's first marriage to Margaret Nevins. Robert Lee, my g-grandfather was from his marriage to Margaret McCullough.
I SO... appreciate your assistance.... You and Ann!!!

  • Diane Smith Marjorie, it is Diane Smith. You sent me Parrott obituaries back in April and I was to send you some $$ for postage etc. I am SO sorry that did not happen. I have been ... well recouping from bad illness. I haven't been on HSMCI since April. Could you give me your address so I can get a little something sent off TODAY! I was SO EXCITED, to get all your info on the Parrotts. I am thinking of coming there this next year. And am still hoping for a pictures, especially Robert Lee Parrott, who was my grandmother's father. He passed when she was about 4. Like I told you before, my mother didn't even know his name. Again, sorry for just dropping off the earth... THANK YOU SO MUCH for all you've found so far. Diane
